Default Question About GW Usage

Okay, I heard from a friend that ANet has started to ban accounts that log in under more than one IP address. I have one account on four different computers, that connect to various networks throughout my neighborhoor/workplace. My friend says that ANet believes the account to be used by more than one person and will ask for your CD key from any of the main campaigns in order to authorize that you're the real owner. I don't have any keys except for EoTN. He also says that this is a security measure from that 117 bit a while ago.

I'd like to know if anyone has heard anything like this, or knows about any bans that are happening because of multiple usages. I don't want to think this is like that RIAA crap about having to buy more than one copy to play on different computers. And I don't want my account banned because I use a laptop that travels. Community, please tell me if this is just a rude joke or the truth.

I don't believe. I think one of the strenghts of Guild Wars is that you can install it to another computer even without CD:s.

Quoted from GW website:

Existing Guild Wars Players

If you already have a Guild Wars account, you may also use this downloadable client to install Guild Wars when your original media is unavailable. You will need your account login information to access the game.

Sadly, that doesn't answer the question about usage from mulitple IP addresses.

I play on my lunch hour from work, a totally different IP address.

So, the statement in the OP's post is just a rumour then? That's good.

I believe it must be, as I have been doing this for 8 or 9 months.

Yeah, never heard of that. I log under a few IPs, namely my own, at school when get ultra-bored and not in class, and at my grandparents during the summer/winter holidays. In a 2 years and a half, never had a problem.

I've been playing on mulitple IPs for over a year now and I've never had any problems. To me, this sounds like a scam.

As many ppl here, played from many IPs and no pb.

I don't believe it's true, it does not make sense.

I think we would have heard some kind of "official" statement from anet. I have played in various locations out of state as well.

I've played on three different computers. I've never heard of being banned for using multiple IP's. Wouldn't really make sense given that the client is downloadable.... :S

I would doubt this to be true simply because some ISPs use dynamic IP addresses instead of stactic ones.

Exactly. My ISP is one of those who does this and I've never had any problems at all with my GW account.

The 117 bit was about people using an exploit, nothing to do with using multiple ips. And the only people who would ever ask for your cd keys would be from support and only after you contact them about an issue(like losing your login info, getting hacked, etc).

Anyway, I've been playing on multiple ips for nearly 3 years now, never been banned.
